A bicycle ride through the city centre gives you a good impression of the history and life in Dokkum. It’s very easy to ride your bike in the historic centre, but also ideal to explore the other parts of city, a visit to the supermarket, a visit to the Boniface chapel or exploring the region. Only by riding your bike you’ll get a complete picture of what Dokkum and its surroundings has to offer: a scala of cultural sights.

We certainly recommend to also venture outside of Dokkum by bicycle and explore the surroundings and nearby countryside. What about a bike ride to the Wadden Sea? Or perhaps along the historical water route to the Lauwersmeer, a day tour around the Lauwersmeer, or bike along the famous ice-scating tour the Frisian Eleven Cities Tour.

We have set out for you various routes through the region; you can find these routes below. For the recognisability we make use of the “fietsknooppuntennetwerk’ a network of cycling routes trough out the Netherlands. The Wadden Sea is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since June 2009. This recognises the Wadden Sea and coast as equated with famous nature reserves like Yellowstone in the United States and Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. The northern area is a national park since 2003, which underlines the uniqueness of the environment once more. This together with the beautiful Dokkum and many authentic villages in the area makes a bicycle tour is the way to enjoy and discover the region.
